BMI as a health indicator
|My scale is also embedded with a BMI calculator|
Many of us hear or read about BMI without it making any sense to us. BMI simply is a measure for human body shape using an individual's weight and height. BMI is calculated thus: the individual's body mass divided by the square of their height. Since this is not a study in Math or Physics, I will spare you the stress of the calculation. Check the side bar of this blog for the BMI calculator.
While BMI is not the ultimate determinant of how healthy you are, it gives you an idea of what your healthy weight should be. However, since some might be muscular and not necessarily fat, it should not be the sole determinant. Notwithstanding the above, it’s very important that if you are on the fat side, you should monitor your BMI and make sure it stays within the healthy range for your height.
Lowering your BMI means embarking on a weight loss journey. As you lose weight you will notice that your BMI gets lower and that feeling of achievement is real! Go ahead and challenge yourself!
